DAVIES, Lynn
Born in Ottawa, Lynn Davies began painting at seventeen years of age. Despite her consuming interest and early success in art, especially in portraits, she devoted the next ten years of her life to studying and working as an occupational therapist. However, she never lost her attraction to art. She returned to painting in the latter part of this period, focusing all her free time on developing her skills in pen and ink, pastel, and oil figurative work.
A one year hiatus from health care allowed her to build up a body of work that has been collected enthusiastically, both in Canada and the United States. In 2002, Lynn placed second in the Portrait Society of Canada's International Portrait Competition. She has received an Elizabeth Greenshields Award, and is a member of the Portrait Society of Canada, and the American Society of Portrait Artists.
Lynn has found that her studies in anatomy and dissection at the University of Toronto, have given her a more informed understanding both of bones, and muscle structure. This solid foundation, coupled with a well rounded appreciation of Old Master techniques and contemporary figurative sensibilities, enhances not only her insightful portraits, but also her distinctive gallery artwork.
