Artist Bio:

In any association [Women’s Art Association of Hamilton] there is always a core group of members who do most of the work year after year. Ann Hanson has certainly done her share since joining the WAA in 1952: she has served as treasurer, mall exhibition convener, and public relations officer. Ann is married to the well-known local artist, John Hanson. Mr. Hanson has conducted a number of workshops over the years for the WAA and is regarded by the group as a good friend. Ann and John met each other as students at the Hamilton Technical Institute: they began dating several years later when coincidence brought them to the same party. Still later, while on a week’s leave from the air force, John proposed and the two married. As Ann recalls it, they spent the next 20 Years dragging their kids through art galleries.

Ms. Hanson studied at the Hamilton Technical Institute for three years under Hortense Gordon, John Sloan, and Jean Wishart. She took Saturday morning lessons from Amy Howard Sommerville, and later studied under Marian Mattice at the Royal Hamilton Conservatory of Music. For many years, Ms. Hanson worked as an artist at the Royal Botanical Gardens; later she taught botanical drawings at the RBG and Mohawk College. She has also instructed Saturday morning adult education classes in Landscape painting.

Ann Hanson has exhibited in many group shows and two-person exhibitions. She has sold hundreds of her paintings executed in her preferred media of oils and acrylics. Ms. Hanson has been represented in the art-loan program of the Art Gallery of Hamilton for many years.
