SYDNI WEATHERSON

"Colour gets my creative juices flowing, always. Most of my pieces are planned around landscape photographs that I’ve taken or friends have shared with me to use as colour inspiration. From there I’ll colour match my glass to the different hues in the photos. Unwrapping a new order of colour bar from my local supplier or getting new tools always brings new energy into the work as well."

Biography

Sydni Weatherson is a multidisciplinary artist and recent recipient of the Pattie Walker Memorial Award currently working out of Harbourfront Centre in Toronto, Ontario. Sydni graduated from the Bachelor of Crafts and Design program at Sheridan College in 2022. Her work as a glass artist revolves around the themes of organic movement and open spaces with a focus on carefully selected colour palettes. The inspiration for her work stems from time spent hiking in the Niagara Escarpment, her daily commute, aerial photography, and the movement found in watercolour paintings. Sydni’s current work looks to capture the fluidity of the glass during the making process, exploring colour, texture, and movement frozen in time through the excavation of layers. This excavation is done with traditional engraving techniques using diamond embedded brass wheels.
