February 13 - March 15, 2025
Opening Reception | Thur. Feb. 13, 7-9 pm
Earls Court Gallery is pleased to announce “Abandoned Variety Store 4” exhibit featuring new original prints by Dundas based artist Matthew McInnes.
For Matthew McInnes, “Abandoned Variety Store 4” exhibit is a continuation of an ongoing documentation series of buildings and landscapes in Hamilton. McInnes states:
“This recent work includes buildings designated for demolition for Hamilton’s anticipated Light Rail Transit System, as well as landscapes from the abandoned Jamesville social housing complex at 405 James Street North. These images originated as sketches and have been translated for screen printing and drypoint processes. They are included in this exhibition largely as hand printed pieces, with a selection of drawings included to reveal steps in the process.”
Showcasing this exhibition in the gallery is well matched as Earls Court Gallery is in walking distance of one of the projected terminals for the LRT which is to be located at Ottawa Street North and Main Street East.
Matt Mcinnes is known for his work that focuses on social histories and topographies of urban change. His artistic process is informed by over 14 years as an arts educator and printmaker. Matt McInnes is a graduate of Ontario College of Art and Design with a specialization in printmaking. For many years he has worked with Centre3 for Print and Media Arts as a printmaking instructor, and program coordinator for education for children, youth, and adults.
