    Saskatchewan NAC Auction House Biography and Notes

    Halfred Johan Tygesen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark on Dec. 13, 1910 and arrived in Canada in 1927. His father opened one of the first galleries in Toronto in 1927. Tygesen studied under Group of Seven member Franz Johnston and was asked to exhibit with the group early in his career. He opened his own gallery in Toronto in 1960. Halfred Johan Tygesen died in 1994. Source
